Frequently Asked Questions

How high is the canopy tour?

The course varies in height from 2 feet to 200 feet off the ground.

Will I be safe on the canopy tour?

We use state-of-the-art safety equipment, and all of our structures are built with redundant safety systems. You will be clipped in to safety lines through the entire tour. All of your safety equipment, clipping and un-clipping, is handled by certified Canopy Guides trained by leading industry professionals. All Guides must pass a 60-hour skills training (at minimum) and a written exam prior to taking any groups up in the trees. On-going training hours are also required. Safety is our first priority. You enjoying an amazing canopy tour is our second!

How long are the zip lines?

The zip lines on the course vary from 120 feet to over 1100 feet in length.

Are Canopy Guides permitted to accept gratuity?

Yes. Gratuity is customary and very appreciated for tour guides. So if you enjoy your zip, feel free to tip!

What type of animals do you have in this area?

Several, here are just a few: American Black Bear, Eastern Cottontail rabbit, gray fox, gray squirrel, house mouse, opossum, raccoon, red fox, white-footed mouse, white-tailed deer, gray bat, Indiana bat, Northern flying squirrel, Red wolf, and Townsend's big-eared bat.

What should I wear?

Wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather, and perhaps bring a few layering options along with you in the car. You are required to wear closed toed shoes, and short shorts are not suggested.

What should I bring?

Bring medication with you that might be needed at a moment's notice, like an EpiPen or asthma inhaler. If you would like to bring a camera, we suggest one of the point-and-shoot variety rather than one with a large lens. Your camera should have a strap on it so that it can be attached to your harness to ensure full use of both hands. Backpacks are not permitted on the tour.

Does the tour run in the rain?

Yes, and you'll find that experiencing Moody Cove in the rain is a truly invigorating experience. Forests come to life in the rain! We will cancel tours in the event of severe weather, such as lightning or high, sustained winds.

What if I am afraid of heights?

We suggest that you do not use the canopy tour to overcome an intense fear of heights. If you are merely hesitant, we are pleased to report that many folks who don't love heights say that a Navitat canopy tour is more about forward movement, experiencing the natural environment in a new and different way, and spectacular long-range views. You can do it!

Can I bring a camera?

Yes, but we ask that your camera have a strap so that it can be attached to you to prevent falling. A zippered pant or jacket pocket is also helpful. Navitat is not responsible for and cannot recover any items dropped from the course.

Can I wear my glasses?

Yes, but you might consider wearing an eye-glass strap to ensure that your glasses do not fall off. Navitat is not responsible for and cannot recover any items dropped from the course.

How long will we be in the trees?

Your total tour experience (from gear up to gear down) will last 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on the size of your tour group. Your time in the trees will be approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.
