Adventure Crew Members

Seeking professionals who are interested in providing great customer service and experience while working in the trees. The position of Adventure Crew Member is part-time and seasonal.

Navitat Canopy Adventures is a premier tree-based adventure company that offers experiences that thrill, educate, and inspire. Navitat Knoxville at Ijams Nature Center offers over 60 challenges throughout 6 different adventure courses in the canopy of the trees.

Position Description
Adventure Crew Members provide customer service, instruct and lead participant groups on their experience. All candidates must share our philosophy of sustainable practices, and our focus on excellence and safety. Applicants must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and good communication skills.

Summary Of Essential Job Functions
o Provides excellent customer service to all guests of Navitat Canopy Adventures
o Ensures all course operations are conducted in accordance with Navitat safety standards
o Properly inspects all course components and course gear
o Fits harnesses and helmets correctly and supervises the use of all personal safety equipment
o Conducts participant ground school and pre-screening
o Supervise guests’ trekking participation
o Facilitates guests’ experience as they progress through the course
o Ability to perform all rescues as needed
o Have a understanding of local ecology and history
o Attends ongoing training throughout the season

Qualifications
o High School diploma or equivalent
o Guiding experience in adventure tours preferred
o Strong risk management experience preferred
o Must pass initial training
o Must pass a monthly skills assessment
o Current CPR and First Aid certification (on site certification may be available)
o Ability to communicate and work as an effective team member
o Ability to speak in front of large groups effectively
o Ability to work long hours and irregular shifts in a multi task environment
o Speaks fluent English and uses cordial manners

Physical Abilities Required
o Must have ability to perform work at height
o Must be able to perform all technical rescue associated with the park
o This position may require walking and standing for long period of times in all weather conditions
o Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

JOB SPECIFICS
Work Schedule
o Must have a flexible schedule with full availability on the weekends.
o Adventure Crew Members (ACMs) are classified as seasonal employees.
o Navitat’s season is March 10th- November 30th.
o Summer season is May 15th- September 4th.
o Operations are planned for Friday-Sunday for Spring and Fall and 7 days a week for Summer.
o Schedule and dates subject to change.
o All Navitat employees will be required to sign a seasonal hiring agreement prior to beginning work.
o The ACM position is a physically demanding position. Due to the nature of this industry, ACMs may be required to work long hours and irregular shifts in all weather conditions.
o Working outdoors with the general public requires the ability to adjust quickly to any situation, all while managing risks and providing excellent customer service.
o Navitat makes no guarantee regarding the number of hours an ACM will receive. Work hours in a given week fluctuate based on the number of guests.
o Scheduling priority is determined by both employee availability and performance.
o ACMs may be placed on a standby or on-call schedule.
o The final work schedule for each day will be emailed the previous afternoon.
o A schedule of guaranteed days off will be made in advance.

Training
o Initial training is a consecutive four day, ten hour a day commitment.
o Trainees are required to attend the entire training in order to be eligible for employment.
o Initial training will require trainees to learn to deliver a high-quality educational experience, manage risk, master the use of course equipment, perform timed high-angle rescues, and provide excellent customer service to all guests.
o Trainees must pass both a written final test with an 80% or above and a practical test with 100% to successfully complete the training.
o ACMs will be required to attend and document ongoing trainings throughout the season.

Wages and Benefits
o Wages are earned by the hour.
o Performance-based raises are possible.

Uniform and Gear
o Navitat will provide ACMs with personal protective equipment (harness, helmets, radios, etc.).
o Staff uniforms, including outerwear and leather gloves, will be provided by Navitat. Additional uniforms and protective equipment will be available at the employee’s expense.
o All ACMs are required to maintain excellent hygiene and maintain a professional appearance.

Sales & Customer Service Team

Navitat Canopy Adventures Knoxville is actively seeking enthusiastic, hard-working, customer service-oriented people to join our Sales and Customer Service Team. Navitat is located at Ijams Nature Center.

Position Description
Qualified candidates will have the skills and desire to:
o Provide excellent customer service to all Navitat guests and potential guests, whether by phone, email, or in-person
o Represent the Navitat brand by playing an active role in helping to thrill, educate, and inspire our guests
o Work in an environment where multi-tasking is mandatory and efficiency is prized, all while maintaining a positive attitude

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
o Providing information to and answering questions for potential guests
o Actively and persuasively selling Navitat adventures to visitors and facilitating the reservation process
o Greeting guests and checking them in
o Ensuring all guests meet Navitat’s participant requirements (the ability to gracefully handle situations where guests do not meet participant requirements is a must!)
o Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of all guest areas
o Communicate guest booking to Navitat staff and foresee staffing and gear needs
o Handle cash and complete customer transactions
o Perform opening and closing duties and ensuring cash drawer count is correct

Qualifications
