how high is the canopy tour?
The course varies in height from 2 feet to over 200 feet above the ground. The greatest heights are reached while zipping across ziplines. The highest platform is situated high in a chestnut oak 55 feet above the ground.
will i be safe on the canopy tour?
We use state-of-the-art safety equipment, and all of our structures are built with redundant safety systems. You will be clipped in to safety lines through the entire tour. All of your safety equipment, clipping and un-clipping, is handled by certified Canopy Guides trained by leading industry professionals. All Guides must pass a 60-70+ hour skills training (at minimum) and a written exam prior to taking any groups up in the trees. On-going training hours are also required. Safety is our first priority. You enjoying an amazing canopy tour is our second!
how long are the ziplines?
The 10 ziplines on the course vary from 120 feet to 1100 feet in length.
how long will we be in the trees?
Your total tour experience (from gear up to gear down) will last 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on the size of your tour group. Your time in the trees will be approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.
does the tour run in the rain?
Yes, and you'll find that experiencing Moody Cove in the rain is a truly invigorating experience. Forests come to life in the rain! We will cancel tours in the event of severe weather, such as lightning or sustained high winds. Prior to booking your tour, please review our Cancellation & Refund Policy, which includes information about weather. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
what should i wear?
Wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather, and perhaps bring a few layering options along with you in the car. You are required to wear closed toed shoes, and short shorts are not suggested.
If it's rainy, feel free to bring along a rain jacket and/or pants. You're gonna get wet and have a blast! (Note that ponchos are not allowed, as their loose, bulky nature interferes with safety gear.)
In cold weather, we suggest you wear thin, liner style gloves that can be worn under the required work-style gloves that we provide. A wind resistant outer layer is helpful, as well as stocking caps or low profile ear warmers that are able to be worn under our helmets.
can i wear my glasses?
Yes, but you might consider wearing an eye-glass strap to ensure that your glasses do not fall off. Straps are available for purchase in our on-site retail area. Navitat is not responsible for and cannot recover any items dropped from the course.
what should i bring with me?
You'll want to bring any medication with you that might be needed at a moment's notice, like an EpiPen or asthma inhaler. If you would like to bring a camera, we suggest one of the point-and-shoot variety rather than one with a large lens. Your camera should have a strap on it so that it can be attached to your harness to ensure full use of both hands. Backpacks are not permitted on the tour.
can i bring a camera on the tour?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a camera. Your camera should have a strap on it so that it can be attached to your harness to ensure full use of both hands. We suggest cameras of the "point-and-shoot" variety rather than ones with large lenses. A Navitat photographer will also be up in the trees during your tour capturing professional-quality images of your tour group. These photos are available for purchase in the Welcome Center following your tour. We burn the tour photos to a custom Navitat CD so that you can print and share your shots with friends.
what if i am afraid of heights?
We suggest that you do not use the canopy tour to overcome an intense fear of heights. If you are merely hesitant, we are pleased to report that many folks who don't love heights say that a Navitat canopy tour is more about forward movement, experiencing the natural environment in a new and different way, and spectacular long-range views. You can do it!
