Safety Standards

Navitat Asheville Guide TrainingWith the rapid growth of the US zipline industry in recent years, investigating a zipline company’s safety standards and practices has never been more important.

The zipline canopy tour industry is, for the most part, self-regulated throughout the United States. Most reputable companies in the US maintain membership in the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). This organization sets forth proper standards—in design, performance, inspection, operation, training and certification—for ropes/challenge courses, aerial adventure parks, and zipline canopy tour businesses.

Navitat is proud of the long-standing involvement its leaders have had in ACCT. Chief Operating Officer Dylan Burt currently serves on the Operations Certifications Standards Committee and Partner John Walker serves on the Canopy Zipline Tour Committee.

John’s company, Bonsai Design, Inc., the leading canopy tour installer in the nation, designs and constructs all Navitat tours. Dylan and his staff of experienced operators train all Navitat canopy guides, ensuring that your safety is in the hands of the best staff in the industry!

construction

  • All of our courses are designed and built by Bonsai Design Inc., the leading canopy tour installer in the country.
  • The canopy tour has redundancy built into every element.
  • The canopy tour is inspected daily before tours begin and periodically if we feel there is cause for a more thorough inspection (ex: wind storms, lightning.) Bonsai Design Inc. inspects the tour bi-annually.

guide training

  • All canopy guides are required to attend a rigorous 50-70+ hour training and pass a written and practical test to begin guiding. Guides also complete interpretive trainings focused on local plant ecology, history and culture prior to guiding guests on the canopy tour.
  • All canopy guides must participate in an ongoing training program.
  • All guides are certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED use.
  • All training is done by industry professionals with years of experience.

operations

  • All equipment is inspected after every tour for irregularities.
  • All equipment usage is monitored and recorded after each use.
  • Two canopy guides and a supervisor on the ground accompany every group of eight guests maximum.
  • All guests are instructed on technique before the tour in orientation and Ground School, and during the tour.
  • Guests are always clipped into a belay safe attachment point while on the canopy tour. Guests are never unclipped during the tour.
  • Professional guides handle all equipment transfers on the canopy tour.
